Social Media's Unhealthy Direction

We live in a world where it has become common to criticize and condemn people for any little thing, real or imagined.  Social media has brought strangers into people's lives, connecting us in ways that are caustic and dangerous.  When social media started out, the ability to connect with long lost friends and family was wonderful.  Then having people from all around the world instantly send feedback on a post filled that void of loneliness, providing that acceptance that is not found in our small world of familiarity.

Somewhere in the midst of this new way to connect with the world, things went awry.  Soon the same toxic behavior that occurs in our personal world infiltrated social media, and hate overtook the joy that came with this personal connection.  People began spreading lies, hate, and condemnation on every portal of this medium.  Like a silent disease, this blackness of the human soul infiltrated every part of our lives.  Parts of our everyday interactions are criticized by people who don't even know us or our situations.

Why do people believe they have the right to dictate how another person lives their life?  Too much control has been given to people through social media.  I am amazed that people have the power to have someone fired because of a social media post.  What happened to the adage of minding our own business, leaving well enough alone, and innocent until proven guilty?

Unfortunately, the only way to really fix the problem of people passing intelligent judgment on another is by not using social media and not posting personal information.  We need to stop using twitter to voice uneducated opinions on other's actions.

Honestly, I believe if you are in a leadership position, especially in government, you shouldn't use social media for anything but sharing news on public policies.  And if you are a Hollywood actor/actress not running for political office, only voice on policies that you have studied and are well educated on.  I also believe businesses shouldn't change their policies overnight due to social media comments.

If you go into a home as a guest, do not post a picture of their personal items.  If you have an issue, talk to that person, do not post your opinion of their lifestyle on social media without their knowledge. They should be entitled to privacy, and if their behavior does not show the propensity for harm to the general public, then leave them alone.

If your child complains about how things are going at school, instead of posting something about the teacher, go see for yourself.  Visit your child's classroom, help your child's teacher.  Better yet, take the phone away from children until school is out.

Do we even know if there is a real person behind the comment or are we being driven by those who seek our demise?  We are letting too many comments change our country.   If you are seeking self interest, you are doing this wrong.

We need to stop being overly sensitive to other people's lives and focus on ourselves. Yes, I know that there are social ills in our world right now, but I believe we are letting people who have ill will in mind run our global society.

Quit feeding on the negative and get to know the real human beings in your life.  Go visit your neighbor, volunteer in your child's class room, donate your time to the less fortunate.  Do more than pass judgment and condemn others.   While there is power given through social media, the main power at the moment it isn't healthy nor truth.  Stand up for the good in our world, focus on the changes that are phenomenal, be the one who brings light to others.
